Three Toddler Approved Activities - Adventures With Ellie

Three Toddler Approved Activities

The weather is getting warmer and I don't know about you but that means my little one is getting restless and just wants to jam in the fun.

Today I'm going to share a few easy and fun activities that not only keep my Littles happy but have given me a few minutes to do my other chores while they are having a blast.

The best things about these is YOU can make them when ever you need it and if you know me I love quick and inexpensive fun. So here we go :

Homemade Bubble Solution

 You will need :
  • 4 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup sugar (who knew!)
  • 1/2 cup Dawn dish soap (I tried other brands but this one works the best)
First mix together the warm water and sugar making sure the sugar dissolves really well now add the Dawn soap and mix slowly (that way you wouldn't get soap foam which will make your mixture not so good. We found out the hard way!)

Now get ready for bubble fun! This is PERFECT for refilling those containers of bubbles you might have already purchased for your kids that need a refills

This is so easy to make and quick so I always make plenty to keep on hand. I refill the little containers and have plenty for another refill before I make another batch. This go around I bought blue colored dawn and that's what we ended up with! So see what color Dawn's soap you find.

Homemade Dough

You will need :
  • 1 cup hot water (not boiling, hot to touch)
  • 3 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 2 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • food coloring
What I love about this is that it's super quick and it doesn't require vinegar like other recipes I've seen and it's super fast.

This recipe will make you 4 different sets of colored dough
  • First add your water, oil and stir a bit.
  • Add your flour and salt. (go slowly)
  • Mix together and knead well until it begins to resemble play dough. Now Divine then into 4 equal portions.
  • This is when I add the food coloring and get to kneading again! Yes you will get some color on your hands but I've found if you wash your hands right before going to your next batch you are should be ok.
If  you find it too sticky add a little bit of flour, as well if it's too dry add a bit more of flour until you "feel" the right texture of the dough. Also for the color of your dough will depend on how many drops of color you add.

NOW time to play! Of course you can share with your kids Ha!

For storage I use plastic sandwich bags or a bowl with a good tight lid. Make sure to  keep the moisture out so it doesn't dry out. Best thing about this is if it does dry out it's super easy to make another batch for your kids!

Homemade Kid Friendly Paint

This is super easy and I don't know about your kids but my littlest LOVES to paint and is always trying to grab my watercolors so she can paint BUT she also likes to "taste test" the paint brush after she's dipped it SO when I found this I said well at least these are edible ingredients Ha. So here we go!

You Will Need :
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Food coloring

Get a nice big bowl and mix all the ingredients expect the food coloring. Make sure you  mix this well and now divide into 4 containers. I actually found a cute little set of 4 tiny plastic bowls that I found at the Dollar store which was perfect to put the paint in.  Once you divide it add your drops of food coloring and mix to a color your kids would like.

Also when you divide your paints if you see it looks a bit too thick add 1 tsp at a time of water until it gets a thinner.  Your paints are ready for your little ones to get creative. I usually will sit Isy in her High chair and put a trash bag under her chair and an old t-shirt and she is as happy as she can be.

Here are just a bit of fun captured of my girls :

I hope you will give these fun recipes a try and if you do I'd love for you to let me know! I will be sharing some other crafts that we have been loving at my house in the coming weeks. So make sure you sign up for my newsletter so you wouldn't miss any upcoming fun.
